“We’re pleased to announce April’s Voice of the Month is Karen Murray!
Ahab Talent: How did you get started in voiceover?
Karen Murray: Years ago, while hoping for my “big break” in theatre, TV, and film—a patron at a restaurant where I was waiting tables told me I had a nice voice and said I should meet her friend, Paul Alan Ruben who produced voiceover. At the time, I didn’t even know what voiceover was! But I said, “Sure!” and met with Paul (who is now a 2X Grammy-winning audiobook director), and he wound up hiring me for jobs consistently for almost a decade, as well as referring me to other voiceover producers/directors. I did tons of e-Learning work, some audiobooks, local radio spots, short narrations-things like that. I eventually got formal voiceover training and later made a demo which I shopped around in order to get agency representation. CESD Talent Agency signed me pretty quickly because by then, I had had a lot of experience behind the mic.
Check back next week to learn more about April’s Voice of the Month Karen Murray!”
